Hiking on the Island of Krk- An Analogy for Life

First of all you're probably wondering how Krk can be the name of an Island. You just pronounce each letter! We had such an enjoyable day with our mission President and his wife, the Melonakos's and the 4 great young missionaries in our city that we work with often.
This Island is accessible by bridge and only 30 minutes away. Our plan was to follow hiking trails to the highest point on the Island, Obzova, at 568 meters. We parked and needed to walk a few minutes to get to the start of the trail. The trail had markers that we followed carefully on the way up to the small mountain. Luckily for us it wasn't a difficult hike, just walking on rocks for some of it.
We enjoyed taking pictures at the top. Sister Melonakos loves sheep and the hiking web site had promised that we'd see sheep during our hike. The Elders volunteered to take Sister Melonakos's phone and go to the next bigger hill and take a photo of sheep. The remainder of us were enjoying talking as we walked down the mountain and forgot to carefully watch for the "blaze"s ("markers" . Yes, we learned a new vocabulary word that is behind "trail blazers"). We walked for about 20 minutes and then noticed we were getting close to the sea and didn't recognize anything familiar. We debated what to do. The low bushes created the impression that we could go in the direction of the trail if we decided to just follow our noses, but we knew we'd come to a dead end and have to go back. We decided it was important to stay together and go back up the hill and hopefully find a blaze to tell us when to make a left turn to get back on the trail.
We did find a blaze in another 20 minutes.  So not following the trail blazes cost us 45 minutes of extra walking. Because we were off the trail the Elders beat us down the mountain even though they had hiked to two further mountains.
We all thought our experience could be used to make analogies about life in general.
