Birthday in Croatia

Perry planned a fun day for my birthday.  It started with a "walking tour" of Rijeka.  We ended up having a private tour as it was only us.  We learned more about the history of Rijeka, the Roman beginnings, the influence of when Rijeka was a part of Italy, etc.  The guide showed us lots of little known areas in the old city that date back to the 1st through 3rd century.

Then we drove up to overnight in the nearby town of Opatija that is much more touristy than Rijeka. Perry even went swimming briefly with me even though the water was frigid and takes awhile to get used to. We had dinner overlooking the sea and the next morning went on an early morning walk along the path next to the sea. It was a really fun day! On our way home we drove up to an old church to see views of the area.
     Plus, my kids all texted happy birthday to me at the perfect time so I saw them first thing on my birthday! It was a fun way to start my birthday! Mail takes 12 days to arrive- so eventually I'll get my birthday card from Tucker and Leila!

Perry teases me because I love the flowers here! It rains quite a bit along the coast so everything grows.
